February is Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month, and we’re proud to spotlight one of the incredible opportunities available to our students — our EMT/Firefighting class!
We are especially proud to share that we are the only high school in our area offering this course, giving our students a unique opportunity to get a head start in the emergency services field while still in high school.
This program is taught and certified through Vernon College, allowing students the opportunity to earn industry-recognized certification at graduation. That means our students don’t just gain knowledge — they graduate with real credentials that can immediately open doors to careers in emergency medical services and firefighting.
What truly sets this program apart is the extensive hands-on experience students receive. They spend countless hours actively training in real-world scenarios, practicing life-saving emergency medical skills, learning firefighting techniques, working with professional equipment, and responding to simulated emergencies. These hands-on hours build confidence, teamwork, and the ability to think clearly under pressure.
Adding even more value to the program, our instructor brings firsthand experience to the classroom. As a former EMT and firefighter, our teacher shares real-world insight, practical skills, and lessons learned from actual emergency situations. Students benefit from authentic, field-tested knowledge that goes far beyond a textbook.
During CTE Month, we celebrate programs like this that prepare students for meaningful, high-demand careers. Our EMT/Firefighting class isn’t just a course — it’s a pathway to service, leadership, and saving lives.
